my cousin is going to UF (thats university of florida) this year and didnt know anything about the music there. he wants to do drumline and/or wind ensemble. has anyone heard good or bad things about this program

I've heard they are very good, I've seen a video of their drumline and it was pretty clean sounding. I also heard they have nice fashion sense when their not in uniform..like "formal informal" situations.

No problem..if you want you can search around their websites looking for information or media that can help you learn about their program. I consider the UF line itself to be one of the greatest lines in Florida..if not the greatest...cause FSU comes pretty close if not over UF.

I played on the line there for...well more than four years (06 being my last) I still hang out with a lot of the guys, and it is just an all around fun group. The talent on the line next year is going to be nuts. They have people on the snare line marching crusaders, and BD this summer. They have already been having camps so you might want to get on the ball there. Go for it and good luck!

They have a new marching band director, so things should be on the upswing there.

I'm a freshman at UF and am trying out for the drumline. There are weekend camps throughout the summer, your cousin should look into them if he'd like to try out. Google UF band or UF FDL and you should get the link. I went to a camp back in May, loved it, but haven't been able to make the others. The general impression I got was a very "chill" atmosphere, but at the same time its college drumline and will involve work. The staff was very laidback, which is nice imo. As far as "how good" the drumline is, I've seen them plenty of times, and they've always been pretty good, getting better each year. Nothing like FSU, but the mission statement of UF's drumline isn't quite what FSU's is. FSU also hasn't seen a bowl game in a while, and you can imagine how much fun those are. There's plenty of vids on youtube he can czech out as well.

But yeah, if he's interested the next camp is July 26th. I'm at UF right now, if he needs a place to stay I've got plenty of room in my dorm to save some hotel cash, especially if its a far drive. Just email me or pm (email is better).
