Okay ive noticed over the past 2 years that my ankles have been in excruciating pain after marching. it had never happened before in my life before i started playing drums... im only a Freshman right now and my ankle pain started in 8th grade after carrying a bass for a short amount of time( 2weeks at band camp) and now if i try to relax after practice it feels like my ankles are about to explode it hurts so much... i have no idea what to do about it and my drum captain doesnt belive me and neither does my Band Director( whose resigning) do yall have any idea what it is or why my ankles hurt? and also...now if im on my ankles for more than about 3 hours they hurt like heck...it could be my weight...im a little overweight but my ankles first started to hurt during 8th grade band camp and ive been overweight pretty much my whole life so any advice or suggestions on what it is are welcome.

Thanks

Were you in marching band where you ran around with 20+ lbs of drum on for hours on end before 8th grade?

Work with me here.

I can think of one off the top of my head...are you pregnant? wink

All joking aside - it depends on what kind of pain you're having (achy, sharp, dull, burning), where in your ankle it's located, what EXACTLY you do that aggravates it, if anything makes it feel worse or better, if there's areas that are specifically tender to touch, etc. If you can't answer those questions, the doctor probably won't do any additional tests like an x-ray or imaging study and will just tell you to wear an ankle brace for support, elevate your legs above heart level at night if they're really swelling, and take an NSAID like Aleve or Motrin for the pain.
