I stumbled upon Randall May's site this morning. They finally updated it. It is pretty sweet. all the new gear is on there, as well as a mouse over zoom in tool. Pearl and Yamaha catalogs PDFs are there as well.

One thing I like about Yamaha's 6/8 combo over Dynasty's 6/8, is this
Quote:
6/8 attachment
this distinct, optional sextet configuration allows the 6/8 drums to be raised or lowered independently from their encompassing drums;
available through Yamaha only

that means your knuckles can be spared when doing a rim shot on drum 2.

Because of the carrier color? Good lord, that might be the lamest reason I've ever heard for choosing a drum company.

no weve wanted yamahas for so long but our BD said they were too much but we spent too much money on fabric every ear to cover the belly plate and sholder parts with black polyester so if he knows only Yamaha gets them in black then he'll order the yamahas instaed of pearls when we get new drums

Or you can still get Pearl's and paint the belly plates. Second option is order Pearl drums and get Yamaha snare and bass carriers. Paint the Pearl tenors black.

I doubt he will just spend an extra few hundred dollars to get black carriers. Yamaha's more expensive then Pearl.

I highly doubt it costs that much to cover the belly plate in fabric. we do it with scraps left over from our tops. It looks a lot nice then sticking them under the uniform in indoor anyways. but thats just my opinion

well were due for new drums and none of us like the pearls so why not beg for better

and seeing as our BD knows nothing about drums, the color of any part of it would be the selling point

I would not say Yamaha is better then Pearl. If anything they are about equal.

If you hated Pearl I have no idea why you would like Yamaha all that much better. I found problems with both brands. I like the sound of maple over birch so I stick with Pearl. Besides they are cheaper and built like tanks.

If your band director will buy drums by color and name alone. good luck with your band program. its a ridiculous way to buy instruments.

I was talking to randy (randall may) about these for about a half hour to fourty five minutes at DCI finals this year. they seem to be really nice. the only thing i was unsure about, and i forgot to ask him, is if the drums come out of the rack when you flip them up and set them down. it seems to me like they would but who knows. one of the things that i like a lot is that they are really easy to adjust.
