Well, lets see, we know nothing about your computer. Processor speed, memory, sound card maker, etc would be a good place to start.

I have a queston, im writing a cadence in 4/4 but i have a part that I want to swing the 8th note. How do I change the measure to swinging 8th note and change it back, but also get it to play back the swinging 8th note? Thanks!!!!

A swung eighth is really just switching to the equivalent x/8 time signature while keeping the main beat steady. In other words, 4/4 becomes 12/8 and the quarter note tempo becomes the dotted quarter at the same tempo.

Keep it in 4/4. I understand what Nex is saying, but that's a long way around a simple solution.
In Sibelius 4, click on the measure you want to change. Click Play>Performance and you'll see Rhythmic Feel. That will change the swing feel. The measure after the swing, do the same thing, but set it back to Straight. Play around with the different swing styles until you find the one you like. Fear not, you only have to change one instrument to affect all instruments in that measure.

I know there's an "easy" way, but I'm irritable about "swung" stuff. I just dislike writing outside the actual use of a time signature, just a personal thing I guess. :-p

Ummmm....I've seen way more swing charts in X/4 than I have X/8.

*shrug* Doesn't mean you can't get a more accurate rhythmic notation out of the x/8 signature. All swung 4/4 is (as far as I can tell) is a way of making a 12/8 rhythm easier for high schoolers (or others who haven't worked with 12/8 nough to become fairly proficient) to read quickly. Seriously, take a swung song and play a 12/8 check pattern behind it. It fits better than a 4/4 duple rhythm.
It's just a pet peeve of mine in music that the correct time signature (a function of the beats and subdivisions of the music, not necessarily the composer's choice of time signature) be used. I understand the convention in jazz is to write in swung 4/4, but I say "Why bother?" in the marching setting. We've got a time signature that works (for all intents and purposes) better as a vehicle for rhythmic accuracy than swung 4/4 ever could. My biggest question is (commonality aside), "What do you actually gain from writing in swung 4/4 over 12/8?"

Well the reason why I asked was not to make it easy for my kids to read, but for the reason of the feel. Its a groove part that has some 16 notes that are grooving and the only way to play it is to have the 16 notes swung. I wish I knew how to post the cadence on here to let you hear what im talking about. If yall could tell me how to do it I would.

Hey this is a quick question. Can VDL 2.5 be used with Sibelius 3 or does it have to be 5
