Ever just have one of those days where your chops are just really bad for no reason at all.

Just can't clean up that easy double stroke?
Just can't seem to catch your stick at every toss?
On top of it all you accidentally hit your thumb when you try to do a simple stick click?

You just get in to that mentality that somehow your getting worse, and that your failing to improve.

Just loose the fun in playing.

I've been having this day for the past couple days sadly. I'm starting to think it's my slimpad. For some reason it's not feeling the way it used to. Or maybe it's the fact that I taped my sticks recently.

Or maybe it's just your muscles changing. Sore. That could be it.

The only option that I haven't considered is maybe I'm practicing TOO MUCH. Maybe I'm just pushing myself too hard.

But then you just make up excuses of why your playing so awkwardly. Then that just makes it worse.

Bah. It's just one of those weeks.

I know it does sound weird but I found the same thing happening with me. I don't know if it was pad hands, cold muscles, I was thinking too much, psyching myself out of playing right, I don't know but I backed off the pad a little. I still practiced consistantly but backed off a little & started enjoying it again. Maybe it's true, too much of good thing is bad. Don't know..

i usually take an off day, like do nothing except if you're walkin by you band just do a little double stroke roll or a swiss army triplet, just like working out, take an off day.

Other than that yeah, sometimes it's just a mental issue, like your are upset or something, so it's impossible to think about drumming, or you haven't played for a few days, and you gotta build back up, like a 3 day weekend or spring break, summer, etc

Like the first time my bd said no to me drumming, i didn't wanna do anything except throw up.

I didn't take my slim pad & my sticks home from school yesterday. And today all I had was a Vibe part to cover so so far my breaks going well.

I'll start back up tomorrow. I'll give you guys an update.

Well don't cut yourself off from the slimpad, again just maybe cut back on your time a little if it's being counter productive. Good luck man...enjoy your time on the pad, there is nothing wrong with that. Make sure you are playing relaxed, that will help you also. When I get tense, it's starts feeling like a chore.

Alrighty. I started hacking away again this morning, and I'll tell you. The pad feels better than ever. It certainly worked.

Sometimes I guess you just have to learn how to fall in love with it all over again.

i've never really had this problem with marching before...but im goin through it with my drum set...i started off on some crappy no name brand drumset...but i got a Pearl set for my birthday just this past january..though i think i got it like early feb. i was so excited about having a decent drum set that actually sounded the way it should, tuned right, etc...anywayz i dedicated myself to playin it atleast an hour a day (ended up 3 - 4 hrs on the week ends)...

well here lately it just seems like i just lost taste for it and still haven't developed it back and like hear it is april and i can't even sit down on it any more... who knows maybe its cuz ive been so caught up making sure i was ready for tryouts and getting ready for marching season that i couldn't do it any more... im just waiting for the moment when i "wake up" and realize i miss it
