I'm contimplating switching my high schools line completely to pro-mark next year. I don't know if it's a problem in the region or just the company itself but i cannot seem to get ahold of very many good pairs of vic sticks anymore. Pro-mark on the other hand has stayed quite consistant.

My only concern is "loosing" the vega. As a player and instructor i love the vega and like the feel and sound of a stick rather than a mallet. I am interested in using TS7's because they seem fairly similar to the vega but i have never used them.

Any insight you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

TS7 is a superior stick in my opinion. Vegas always had a weird taper thing going on that I never liked. The TS7s have a little big bigger head and I find them to be really comfortable. My kids thanked me when I switched them to the TS7 over the Vegas.

We use Vegas at our school, but occasional use mallets. I prefer the V's for any quick parts that don't really have that much double sticking...

Rather than the mallets which, for me, are a lot easier to double w/.

I personally prefer Vegas, but the TS7 "Stevens Stick" is a really good stick, too. They don't play all that different, but the Stevens Stick is a little beefier. One thing I *do* like about the Stevens Stick is the bare wood finish. If your hands are wet or sweaty, they don't get too slippery like VF's painted finishes.

I've also tried Pro-Mark's ATA1 mallets and TS3 sticks. Avoid 'em. They play very end-heavy. They feel sort of like you're drumming with hammers.

I prefer the Vegas slightly more the the TS7s. That is just my opinion. My only complaint about both sticks is that they are a bit too long in the hands sometimes.

I realize you are asking about PM TS7s but if you like the Vega then you really need to check out the TS-1 from Vater. It looks sounds much like the Vega. If you want I will send you out a pair or two to test out. Honestly I think Vater has some of the most under rated stuff out there right now. The quality of their sticks and mallets are superior without question. If you are seriously interested in testing out some of Vaters stuff PM and I will do what I can to hook you up with a little sample pack.

I honestly do not like the TS7, I think its WAY to long for a tenor stick. If you have small block tenors the backs of the sticks will be hitting the J rods. it's longer then some snare sticks. as far as the bead its similar to a Vega only in sound, feel is another issue. reacts more like a mallet. that could be a plus.

the TS3 is closer to the Vega then the TS7. (for some reason it says the TS3 is longer then the TS7 at 16.1/4 inches, my set of TS7's are 17 inches long, pretty sure thats an error on promarks site.) TS3

To bad you are leaving VF, I think the tenor hybrid is definitely one of the best sticks on the market for tenors today.

one more thing. I'm sure Promark has some new products coming out just for BD, a tenor stick is probably something they are working on.

I haven't tried their TS1, but I used their MV11 snare stick as a tenor stick for some lighter latin-type stuff this past indoor season.



That could be said for most of the tenor sticks I've tried. IMO, Even the Vegas, which are shorter than the TS7's, feel too long to comfortabaly get around a set of small block tenors. The Vater MV11 snare sticks I mentioned above are just a bit shorter than the Vegas, but I found them more comfortable for getting around the confined space of smaller drums.

I have to agree with that, that was one of my issues with the Vega's. well with most of the sticks out there. The Hardimon's seem to be a nice length but sound nothing like the Vega's.

I never tried Vater, I always like their set sticks.. I might have to give these
a shot. Pretty much the same as a Vega just little shorter. For now my favorite is still the VF hybrids

The Vater TS1 is a Vega but better and I think it moves around the drums with greater ease than the vegas and certainly most other tenor sticks.
