I need help. \:\(

I have Sibelius 5 with Sibelius Sound Essentials. I can't figure out to make half of the sounds work! Most of the mallet sounds I can write out on the score, but snugglebunny of the auxilary and few battery sounds I cannot.

I can easily open the Kontakt player interface and sample the sounds from there, (such as unison bass, bass rim clicks, suspended cymbal rolls, etc..) but I can't figure out how to place them onto the score!

I've tried changing noteheads, placing the notes on different lines, no luck.

I also can't figure out how to use certain virtual instruments that came with the package, such as concert bass drum or triangles, etc. They sounded like they came out as General Midi sounds.

If I could just figure out to get suspended cymbals and concert bass drums I would be set..for a while. \:\)

Thanks for any help.

Mike

Couple things to check:

1. You have to use an instrument change, (create>other>instrument change) to pull up the correct stave for each instrument.

2. Make sure you have at least 2 instances of Sibelius essentials (32 sounds) loaded in your playback devices. Sibelius leaves out sounds if you don't have enough slots to allocate sounds. This will be fixed on a future update to tell you to load more instances.

HTH,

Gabe

I think you hit the nail on the head. It seems to be working just fine now after I loaded 32 sounds. I can now get a suspended cymbal roll or concert bass drum or other sounds from SSE, but I'm still trying to figure out how to get certain sounds from them such as cymbal chokes or crashes.

Try going to the House Style tab, edit instruments, Orchestral Instruments, Percussion and Drums, Cymbals, then click edit instrument. It should come up with a new window and under Notation Options, click Edit Staff Type which will bring up another window with a picture of a staff and noteheads on it. Either click one of the noteheads already on the staff that you want to change or create a new one and pick the notehead you want. Then click Choose Sound, scroll to metal, cymbal, crash, and then whatever type of crash you want including choke. See if that works for you.

Thanks, that worked for some of it. It seems that even though I change which sound is supposed to be played snugglebunny of the options sound alike; if that makes any sense?

Yeah I noticed that too, but I don't know if there's any way to fix that. Maybe it just needs a better sound card or something.

You don't. This is your soundcard.
Mine does that too. Sorry, I know it's annoying =/

Unless someone has another option.

It sounds fine when you save it to an mp3, so I guess if you really wanted to hear it seamlessly you could just do that.

Actually, it probably has more to do with the memory than it does the sound card. However, based on the information that was given, no one could possibly tell why he's getting hiccups.
