Well, without the laminates, your basically playing on tenor-laid-out slim pad. The laminates make the pad feel like the actual drums, which is people usually always have the laminates on

I'm gonna get a tenor pad and was wondering what your opinions are. I want the Vic Firth heavyhitter because it's got a good reputation. But I found this new pad, it's calld the Quad Mod. Have any of you heard of it? If you have would you suggest it over the heavyhitter? Any suggestions would help. Thanks.

If you haven't seen the Quad Mod here is the website, tell me what you think of it.

get the xymox maurry gusseck tenor pad...it has rims...and its the same size as a set of sixpacks
the hh tenor pad doesnt quite line up but you can put laminates on it so you can play scrapes
both have thier pros and cons

What? The HH pad was designed by Bill Bachman- the same guy that helped design the Dynasty cradle. The HH pad zones are ideal playing positions.

If you can't play sweeps on a pad without laminates, you have some technique issues to fix.

I would imagine the pad would shake a lot on a bell/snare stand.

it doesn't for me. mine is ross i think(never heard of them though) but it works fine, but the tone sounds really weird if its not on a completely flat surface, but i don't mind.
