that is an extremely broad topic, and by broad i mean massive, its kinda like asking someone on advice on how to go about building a skyscraper...but the best advice i can give you is to practice... a lot...and by a lot i mean just about every night for at least an hour.

Practice is just the beginning.
Don't be lame and practice stuff you know over and over, work on new stuff. Work on technique, timing, etc.
Yeah, seriously, extremely broad topic.
Sometimes it's better to ask specific questions.

GET PRIVATE LESSONS!!! then do what youre given.. if you do youll improve at twice the rate you would without them.

if you want to shell out the $50 you could get the heavy hitters marching bass pad: http://www.steveweissmusic.com/product/31494/marching-practice-pads but im guessing that you probably dont want to pay that much for something your most likely (if ur in high school) not going to be playing next year. i would just go with a vic firth pad of some sort.

Get around experienced band members who have good attitudes. Also, take lessons, ask questions, & talk tou your directors. You have to kinda immerse yourself in it to get in the flow. But also remember to keep your grades up & strong so you are a well rounded student.

But also remember to keep your grades up & strong in your other classes so you are a well rounded student. Balance is important.
