I've seen videos of pat fitzgibbons or some other hotshot IE solo player and it looks like they're playing a straight clean singles/ double stroke roll, but are switching their sticks during the strokes...

Does anybody understand how this works at all?
An explanation would be nice, thanks.

I would imagine that there are more than two hits whith each hand when you toss the stick.

I've seen it where they go from trad, to match, to reverse trad, and then to mother grip, all while playing a double stroke roll. Crazyness!

This sort of thing is better taught visualy (how 'bout that?) than with words, so mabye someone can hook us up with a video tutorial.

Taternuts, what do you have against Fitzgibbon? I don't see anything wrong with him or his playing.

Even though my chops aren't nearly as good as anyone at I&E, I tried an ultra-slow-motion version of what Kevin suggested. I think it might be a double stroke roll but you toss the stick after the second stroke, but there's probably something else behind it. Even at 60 bpm I was dropping sticks.

it took me a while to perfect this visual, but u jus have to start EXTREMELY slow and use the hand eye coordination as possible. When you can get fast singles, you'll be able to do double strokes.

You mean like what Queen does in BLAST?

Queen actually does a paradiddle thing, but the basis is the same.

One of the blast drummers, don't remember if it's queen or not, does that on the DVD. It helps when working it out to use singles and get that down at a good tempo before you start doing double strokes.
