I am working on a set of Yamahas SfZ with MTS (double snare) Is there any good reason I should keep these on the drums?? What corps use the MTS ?

lets see,
cavies, cadets use them, is that enough cred for you?

i think they add a much needed second texture to the drum.

I know they use the drum but do they use the features?
I think it just adds a pipe drum sound. I guess if you have an almost no snare sound and you can switch on the fly....

I'm leaving them in but when I would use them may be a mystery to me at the moment...

I have played them without the bottom snares on and I still hear the upper snares a little even when dis-engaged. That concerns me a little but maybe I'm just too close to the drum.

Yeah, I have the MTS's because my band thought the top snare would add a lot of snare sound and cool effect's. Unfortunately, the thing I've found that it adds the most of is weight. The difference between the MTS and the SFZ are about 7 lbs. Now that doesn't sound like a lot, but I can assure you, having marched with both, that it makes a significant difference.

Also, the drum itself is great, and there is really no need to use the top snare.

About the Cadets/Cavies having used them... I know for a fact that the Cadets marched them in '05, however, I think they moved away from them in '06 and '07. I am sure that they didn't use them this year, however I am unsure about '06

I also know that the Devils had the Dynasty top snare unit a few years back and in '07 opted to get them without the top snare. Also, any corps that use Pearl (Phantom, Vanguard, etc.) drum dont even have the option of using a top snare, because Pearl doesnt make a marching snare with that option.

i love how snare drummers complain about a few extra pounds.

Pearl makes pipe band drums with a topside snare, but they don't currently offer the option on corps-style drums.

Pearl doesn't need topside snares on their corps drums. A fine tuned FFX is perfect without it.

I'm surprised to hear about that much of a weight difference in the Yamaha snares. The line I teach just ordered 5 MTS drums, and I'd like to know as much about them as possible.
