TotalPercussion Registered: 10/23/06	Duall, if you ever decide in the future that you want to give the Stevens grip another shot, I highly recommend "Simply 4" by Gifford Howarth. It really helps the percussionist who wants to add the Stevens grip to his/her "Toolbox of Technique." Just my two cents.

marimbaman89 blank Registered: 01/15/08	I actually would recommend buying Method of Movement instead of Simply 4. Simply 4 was the first four mallet book I bought and it didn't help me at all. Method of Movement is waaaay more comprehensive.

Percussionisto Registered: 08/04/08 Loc: Bakersfield, California	I think that you shoudln't switch grips completely, but it would be beneficial to take the time to learn how to do Stevens, because knowing diferent grips couldn't hurt anything. And as for it being unconfortable, Stevens was very unconfortable for me when I started using it, but as time goes by, and you get used to using a grip, it gets a lot better, and it becomes almost second nature to you.
