I have the IP James Ancona 2006 and I love them. I have never used anything else really. My school has a few pairs of others but I don't remember what they are exactly. All I know is that they are IP. The Ancona 2006's are great in my opinion.

I have been using the Innovative Anders Astrand AA25 Medium Rattan Vibe Mallets for years now and love them. Nice feel and a nice tone throughout the entire range of the instrument.

My usual vibe set up is Innovative RFS420 at the top, Mike Balter 23Rs for the middle and Mike Balter 13 R for the bottom. 13 R is a marimba mallet, just in case you're wondering. The 23 Rs are perfect vibe mallets, I have four.

I've used all except the Vic Firth Mallets.

Mostly, it depends on the tone that you want to produce for the kind of music you're playing. What are you going to be using these for?

I'm guessing that you are looking for a general mallet for vibes since you're looking at all mediums with no specifics. But I can tell you that I would choose the Casella IP1005s or Astrand AA25s for a mallet that would be good for most musical selections. The Ancona 2006s may be just a little bit too harsh for really soft, melodic passages but it would definitely speak on the upper register, where the 1005s and AA25s had a little trouble speaking fully.

So it's whatever you're thinking about mostly - What kind of music you'll be playing, and whether you're more focused on the upper or lower register voice.

Vic Firth multi-application series hold up REALLY WELL. Great mallets all around. I highly suggest them.

What do you guys think of the Terry Gibbs vibe mallets by Vic Firth, I'm hoping that I will get mallets for Christmas and I don't know what kind of mallets to ask for.
