In a parade last year, I actually snapped a pair of Corpmaster mallets almost perfectly in half.

Hahah, our bass line uses the old Silver Fox Qwiksilver bass mallets. Some of the older bass 4 mallets are bent at about a 170 degree angle but we haven't had any breaks yet. Unfortunately. =P

I remember last year twards the end of the season my mallet started to get chips in it. At one of our last rehearsals of the year i was smacking my rim clicks as hard as i could and it wouldnt break. haha

I saw a college line that uses the metal Pearl rim-savers, and they hit the saver with the head of the mallet instead of the shaft. It really lengthens the life since the head is made to be hit. The only peoblem is that you have to loosen the rim-saver's screws a tad to get a good click, and that the players have to be consistent enough to hit the saver with the head of the mallet every time. Other than that I think it's a great idea.

i broke a ip fbx-1 in the lot at wgi world championships prelims, there arnt any rim clicks in the show, and i had only had the sticks for like 4 weeks, with practice 3 times a week for 3 hours. it just basicly exploded, wood splinters flew everywhere, it was pretty neat, good thing we are sponsered by ip, the rep was there and gave a new set within 2 minutes!

Bass drumming is like making love
1. You cant play harder than the other
2. You've got to always play in the center
3. You have to know on what count to come in

We were playing our cadence last year on our way to the football stadium, when I hit the rim and just popped the head off of the mallet. The funny thing was that I didn't notice until some random woman came up and handed the head of the mallet to me..

I was really into that cadence I guess......

It depends on how old they are but if they are new they are just bad mallets.
