Our new band director(we got him last year) writes his own drill which is sort of cool, but the problem is that he only thinks of what the pictures look like, not how you get there. So we get all of these carzy moves where I have to squeeze through a tiny hole.(It's not easy with a bass drum!(I know my user name says tenor but I'm playing bass this year))Also, last year he had percussion sprinting, yes sprinting, across the field last year so they could hit their spots. Thank God I didn't march last year! Post your problems too.

I hope you mean jazz-running when you say sprinting...

Anyway, I haven't had anything crazy this year, but last year first semester we had a move where we had to fly back while playing some sweet stuff. Also two years ago second semester I was at the end of an entire battery pinwheel. That got my legs movin'

big moves are no fun, I think the worst is when they write the drumline into

a) a file, or
b) spaced 5+ yards apart

during a long roll. They really like to put the drums in a file during long rolls.

Last year our drill killed me. I'd come off the field winded. This years drill is too easy though. The entire opener the battery moves to the right. Since I play bass, and we face right-field, I basically march forward the whole time. The tempos aren't challenging at all either. The only challenging drill we have is in our closer. Ironically, we learned it in the least amount of time too.

We don't even pinwheel anymore. About four years ago, the onld drumline instructor's daughter was on the outside of the pinwheel and she had to move so far cause we had a hage drumline taht year that she tore every tendon in her knee and her skin was the only thing holding her lower leg on

This year we had to pass through the color guard...not good. We were moving back and right and they were moving forwards and left-I hated marching blind into a spinning death trap

This year we have trumpets and baritones breaking snare ranks instead of going around us (which would make more sense having the form go around the drumline) and we're jazz-crabbing and 180 while playing a roll-heavy passage with 5-lets and fast triplet rolls. We're killing the competition with demand/exposure points, though

Haha, we happen to have a move where we are directly behind the colorguard, which is usually a pleasant experience, they provide good company when we stop, and well heh... you know.

Anyway, they have these violent cloth flag thingys which are really painful, and on that move we happen to be going left as they go right and we almost always are hit by five or six flags. Wouldn't be so bad if the end of these flags didn't have some hard black ball thingy on the end which are quite painful. Pretty inconvenient seeing as this move requires a lot of focus too.

This year's drill is pretty easy to me, even if it's my first year on the field. The only difficult things are a fast clarinet/high drums pass-through, one or two parts where I'm crabbing/running at 6-5, 160 bpm or so, and a reaaaalllllly slow change from a horizontal line to a diagonal. That last one's probably just me, though.

Not being cocky but this year our drumline did a left lateral for 30 yards in 22 counts at 162 bpm talk about tough the colorguard when through the line like four times i got hit in the head three times this year but you its moving fast and playing your show clean that racks up the points i think we got beat once this year, but their show was super clean and we donthave a big pit so blah on him anyways if you look at some DCI drumlines they move so fast and still manage to play their show clean so i say go big and fast or go home

Our first movement for marching season's drill was so easy. Like, literally we marched in a straight line in the back for like 50 counts, marched backwards for 8, held like 20, and marched forward again for a long time, haha. It was almost embarassing how easy it was.

Our indoor drill is complex, but we have a fair amount of holds, so it doesn't seem that bad.

hmmm i can't really think of a drill my line used last year that was real hard/fast, but they did go form the back of the band to the front quite often. (they, as in I played trombone last season)

the toughest drill i had was during a drum solo (figures) where we were crabbing 4 to 5 and doing really fast what you would call docey-does (used by BD snares a LOT). needless to say it was mentally/physically challenging

probably my toughest drill move was a 10 yard move in 8 counts, going backwards at around 160 bpm. i was marching trombone that year.

Ha! that reminds me of our show!!! Our new director writes our drill too. The drumline has to pretty much kill our selfs to get to our spots. for the past two years we have been in extrem pinwheels and doing the 50 yard dash backwards hurrling our selfs to our sets, With DRUMS!!!! Its harder then Crudd but ot looks freaken cool!!! Did i metion our director is a drum guy.... so he expects it cleane and accurate!!! lets just say we ended up with a bunch of scares and bruses!!!

We've had some crazy drill in the past. The end of our show this year jumped to probably 185 bpm wtiha 3-4 to 5 step. We were hauling it across the field, and it was in 5/4 4/4 so you end on the wrong foot to stop your momentum. In the Process we had a halt, step out for a couple counts, and then to the end, which was crazy in a diagonal. The rest of the way across was butterflies (3 tenors) all the way, and a crazy impact on the front sideline. Pretty hardcore. I would have to say i've had to do quite a bit of jazz running the past couple years.

We're getting a brand new athletic director of bands who is supposed to make some crazy drill charts. This'll be my first year marching snare so i hope he's not too bad. Maybe some of you out there have heard of him, his name is Joseph Kleiman. if you have, comment.

I was thinking about my show's drill this year and realised that this has to be one of the craziest moves ever, our drumline is in a circle rotating and moving around the field for 76 counts. i thought this would be an interesting topic to discuss your hardest, most bizar, or any other crazy drill moves in your marching band.

one of my favorite moves in my school's band was towards the end of the show my sophomore year. full band company front which quickly morphed into two sets of diagonals which rotate into two blocks which come together to form one big block for the ending.

the idea was good, just not well-executed smirk

That sounds similar to what the Cavaliers did in their 007 show in 2004.

On the topic of crazy drill moves... and Cavaliers... well they just match, need I say more?

The entire battery here at SHSU is doing pinwheels during our drum solo, which isn't saying much in the drum corps world, or even in the high school realm - but considering that the rest of our drill is easy 16-to-5 college band marching, it really keeps us on our toes. Fun to execute, and even more fun when throwing down splits on the tenors. =]

Our drill is so easy this year. All almost all straight lines, and when we do go into an arc for we just hold the form wherever we move.
