My whole line tapes our sticks. Snares, Tenors, and Basses. Me personally, I like my stick to have very small rivets in it when taped. Little more grip.

i used stick tape for one show but i took it off after the star spangle banner and the spirit line cause it added to much weight to the stick and it didn't stick.

for a while my HS would tape just to the fulcrums, but eventually we decided that it looked kinda tacky (even though you can't really see the untaped part when playing)

I personally like taping all the way, with little to no overlap

I think taping only to the fulcrum only looks weird if it's a Vic Firth stick due to the paint on the stick (the laquer). In high school I taped all the way down but have since found it more beneficial to tape to the fulcrum.

My line tapes the entire stick for a few reasons..

1) it helps make the stick last longer
2) it keeps all the sticks looking uniform
3) it gives the sticks somewhat of a grip on those hot weekend rehersals (you have to give the tape time to wear in before you get a grip.)

thats mainly it, i have always done it this way and it works fine for me.

our line tapes from the bead to about halfway down to prevent splitting and cracking when we do rim shots.
