We also tape our tenor and bass mallets just to match. We used the color red for all of our sticks because of the show we're doing (Carmen.) Usually, bass mallets aren't taped, unless your bass line is hacking happy... and Rim click happy.

Our school tapes half way. We tried taping it all the way but it got slippery and it was basically a disaster

We use vic firths as well... and we tape from the bead to the c in "vic" and then from the corpmaster symbol to the end leaving room for our hand s inbetween

we use promark...tape far enough so the writings covered up then leave room for you hand and tape but butt

My line doesn't tape our sticks. We compared tape vs. no tape and found that sticks without tape creates a richer more natural sound. Especially during visuals where we click our and eachother's sticks together.

It's an "Each to his own" situation, I suppose: whatever sound makes you happiest.

Same here. we tape the whole stick. On layer with very little overlap.

I know that our snare line taped up to the fulcrum, but our lone tenor player taped his about only 4" or so from the tip.
