What do you mean by affordable?
Bass mallet holders are not that expensive unless you go with the all-in-one rim protector and mallet holders. Yamaha mallet holders only run around $12 a piece.

There was already a thread on this just a heads up the mods will shut this down.
Click on link below to goto that thread. There Toe posted a great source to mallet holders. You should check it out I bought some last February and they are still using them today.

It took a while to find the thread, but I knew there was a pretty good discussion about mallet holders in the past:
http://www.drumlines.org/threads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/206240/an/0/page/1

There are a couple of pretty good suggestions in that thread, including an $8.99 "utility holder organizer" that Toe found at The Container Store.

{EDIT} I got pulled away from my computer for a few minutes while typing my response and BigLove beat me to the punch.

Why don't you just lay them horizontally across the metal hooks that connect your carrier to your drum?

In any sort of drill movement, they'll fall right off!

I don't know what yours look like, but the ones my line has work perfectly for keeping them there...

For the topic starter, i suggest you attatch your mallet holders by velcro so that you can take them off if you ever need to. We had em on our drums, and they were attatched by adhesive. We took em off because they looked ugly, and the process of cleaning the laminate of all the goo crap was a biggg pain.

Sure, you could lay your mallets across the hooks that hold your drum on. But don't count on them staying there if you're doing fast or demanding drill.

And if you're swapping one pair of mallets for another -- to switch to soft mallets, for example -- how would you gracefully make the switch without somewhere to put the set you were already playing with?

so the adhesive is hard to remove? i got the holders and put them on this past weekend, but will the stickiness really affect the drum that much?
