this may be a stupid question but...if the tenors stay crossed over for more than a couple notes, is every notehead open?

Yes, every note played that is crossed needs to have an open note head.

two questions
can two people write a cadence together and put both their names on it? Can the bass one do shots?

This contest is for individuals only. Part of that has to do with the concept mentioned in the first post that any attempt to leak the identity of your cadence to another person (to gain votes) is grounds for a disqualification.
Do it yourself. You'll have fun.
As for the bassdrum shot deal.
Sure.
All we're looking for is some sort of consistency of the major components of each submission. If you want some flare like a bass shot or have the snares run the sticks across each other like a guiro effect, feel free to do so. We're not trying to limit your creativity. Make sure you identify such markings with text ("instructions" if you will) and ideally a unique notehead for further identification that the note is not a normal tap.
Just keep it well presented and remember that you'll be judged by the Mp3 as well, so if you're thinking outside the box and that sound is not included in the marching percussion library, thats your decision.

K I may sound nub but...how do you get the basses to hit unison...when only using the middle bar? Every time I do it on finale 05...it puts a rim click. Thanks in advance.
After placing the note on the center bar hit the plus button ( + )on your keyboard and scroll to the unison hit (should be only one tap of the key).

I'm not arguing or anything but why does it have to be PDF? I lack that experience (and lack the knowledge of making them into mp3s)
