I'll practice them if I ever see them. Otherwise, it's a complete waste of time.

malfs are rather pointless to practice, unless you are determined to have complete control over your grace note positioning.

I completely agree with both of the prior replies. Malfs are just one of those things that someone thought up because they were bored, and they've become sort of a hybrid rudiment of lore.

Malfs are just flams with the grace note after the accented note right? If so I've only seen them in one place and thats in the row loff solo Africa Hot. If thats not what they are then nevermind

Yeah, that's what Malfs are, and that's the only place I've ever seen them too.

Today, I noticed where malfs might possibly be useful: if you play the grace note as an elongated buzz, so that there's a guzz-sound 'just after' the accented note speaks.

I actually used them like that in a cadence once, but I had no idea that was actually a rudiment.

But yeah, they do sound kind of cool like that. Otherwise, I think they're useless.

Were you to reverse the letters in flam it would spell malf. Which is what a malf is, a backwards flam. The grace note follows the fundamental note. They are in the '128 Hybrid' sticky I think.
