hah. Well for some reason our band directors think that it is even though the football team, soccer team, cross country, track, girls basketball....pretty much everyone but us B) With the shirt on the sweat doesn't go all the way through and it's a lot softer than being on you skin. When you march without a shirt it like sticks to your skin and there is more friction. C) hahah I wouldn't have to worry about it being skinny and in shape, but some of the kids in my band...ugh...

oh ive never had that much of a problem sweating but for the people that do and feel they need to go shirtless i see why they feel that way
i on the other hand have no choise but to wear a shirt because i (being the only girl on the drumline) cannot wear just a sports bra or bikini top even if the guys go shirtless because its not "lady like" according to our BD Off topic: Your a girl? 0,o I thought you were a guy. As for shirts being on, I really don't know how my BD feels about it, We usually do wife-beaters, but after attempting to "unstick" my shirt after a parade one day, I got my hind end chewed, it would have to be something I would ask him. And for the people in the line that are more or less "ugh" thats when your bass line gets a few additions, Just kiddinggg. Either way, the harness will cover most of it, and everyone can looks much better shirtless with a nice harness tan =)

I don't remember anyone in the band ever taking their shirt off for practice. We've never been told not to, but that's because no one's ever tried. As for the girl issue, we only have 2 girls on the line (a snare and myself), and both of us aren't the kind of chicks to practice in bikini tops, even if we were allowed to. I say keep the clothes on. It's high school, there is a dress code, and no BD wants to get in trouble for their kids breaking it. If you wanna get naked that bad, do drum corps

We had to wear shirts, but they never said anything about pants!!! haha this freakin trumpet player goes to practice in compression shorts.. I'm like Nicky put on some freakin pants! But anyways... Yeah we can take off our shirts. At band capm this summer our BD tried making a rule that we couldn't but it didn't last long because it was hot as ever.

We had to wear shirts, but they never said anything about pants!!! There were few things I hated more than the rehearsals we did in aussies/shakos and uni jackets. Thank god they let us go on the pants. Some of the stuff the girls would (or wouldn't) wear for the finals day underwear run was amazing.

At my H.S., to be honest, if your shirt off causes a distraction, you have to wear a shirt. In other words, and it is quite unfortunate that it is like this, but if your the big guy, you keep your shirt on. If you're thin, you can take it off.
I personally agree with those that say to keep the shirt on. I know it's hot, but you're not going to die as long as you are drinking water, and I'm sure the directors give you water breaks. Plus it reduces the chance of getting sunburn, and eventually skin cancer, dramatically.
