yeah. i figured that. but my snare teacher said those are things i could simply work on with a pad and sticks.

and all the time i give myself still does not compete with the hundreds of other people who are auditioning for the snare spot i want. i'm putting my (at the time i audition) 2 years of practice compared to those that have been playing for 5-8 years. To say the least, odds are against me. so i juice out every minute i can to practice. i really don't have time to think "hmm...it would be nice to learn how to play marimba" with other people out there who've been play 3 or 4 times as long as i have.

I never was good at kit and I feel I do better on tenors. Also I like how its more about working as a team than being an individual.

I think a few replies have summed up what I'm about to say, but...

Marching is a team effort. One player can't win a competition alone. In a drumline you get a feeling of camaraderie with your linemates. You rely on each other, you carry each other, and it's just an amazing feeling when that group of people comes together and manages to win something.

Playing kit can be fun too, but marching will always be my number one.

Most core drummers cant play set because they have no groove at all

Amen.... Nothings hotter than a snare drummer with a carrier tan! lol
I think that being in drumline and competing is the most amazing experience. I wouldnt trade it for anything! Maybe a date with the actor Ryan Gosling? Never mind his not worth it!!! lol
Im such a Marching band Junky!

marching is so much more technical and has so much room for expansion. you start with a piece of music, learn it add visuals add it to the band and work with the band learning movements until the finished product is near perfect. Marching wins period...

I like marching because you are part of something much larger than sitting in a garage with a couple other people jamming. You can BE part of something instead of dream of MAKING it big.

I still like set, but I would rather march
