If you dont, then just dont respond please haha.
But for me, i havent been involved at music at all prior to when i started to drum (snare). That was a year ago. Before that, all i did was sports. In my opinion, marching has a competitive aspect to it that kit just doesnt have, even though it may be more fun to play kit. And sports is competitive, so i kinda miss that competition.
How bout you guys?

Well, I choose marching over kit for a couple of reasons:
1. Sound. - To me, the sound of a drumline is something that is awesome. I love to listen to any good drumline just play anything. It just the sounds that are coming from it. Even if it's just eights, I still love the sound.
2. Teamwork - When you're playing kit, you are (most of the time) the main man. You are the only one responsible for keeping time and rhythm. But when you are a part of a line, then you can mess up and there are other people there to pick you up. Plus, when you're playing on a drumline and you play this awesome beat or groove and you get people into it, the feeling you get is awesome.
3. Competition - Pretty much what you said...

Very very true apollo.
As for me, I first started in drumline...fell in love with percussion in general and wanted to become more well rounded in all areas.
I bought a drumset, practiced daily during the off season, then started a band. I love drumset, but as I get older, it gets tougher to find the time for it. But I continue to teach at the high school and indoor level. I don't even have time to teach at the drumcorps level anymore. It sucks but, as long as I have a little bit of this activity in my life, it'll continue to give me that much needed escape from the real world.

I like holding a big stick...
I guess drumset bored me. I still play, usually it's only at church, and everyone knows how awesome church band music is. I figure I can only do marching percussion during the college years. Yeah, there's DCA, but it's hard to do that with a job, family, etc. I'm taking advantage of an opportunity that's only avaliable for a limited time. And I guess my whole life would be a limited time, but that's a much longer amount of time; I can play set more then, when I'm too old and fat to stand up and/or mark time and/or chopless.
