It's okay if they come in all noisy, it'll almost naturally happen. I ALMOST don't like it when they come in quiet...because I feel it wasn't a good sticks-in.
Either way is fine the way I/I've see/seen it.

The noise is fine to make, as long as it's clean. As in, your timing is right. For instance, you're playing something, you end that peice, and bring your sticks in a count later. As long as you're on the downbeat, it will sound just fine.
