I know it sucks to do and is really unhealthy...but I just play a double stroke roll all the way through one of my favorite songs or something...it burns, but your veins will poke out and your chops will increase most def...
also...the ladies love throbbing arm veins
ps. playing on a pillow is the key to a mean set of chops I had no idea it was unhealthy. Any reasons as to why it is? Man I totally forgot about playing on a pillow. Time for those singles!

My left hand is more with the Phantom technique but thats only because i want to march Phantom. Couldn't you just use what the corps you want to be in uses?

Hoosier, I doubt very seriously that any decent DCI drumlines teach their snares to hold the stick in the LH an inch from the back of the stick. I recall from MANY years ago (1984) seeing the end snare drummer for Suncoast Sound hold his left stick back almost that far - but that's the only example I can recall. At an audition camp for the Revolution in '03 or '04 the drum tech had us grip about an inch from the butt on the left hand. I had never seen a corps(or anyone) do this before...very uncomfortable. I do not know if they still use that style, or even if that stuck for the entire season.

So this is my trad grip. I don't think it looks too bad. Sorry about the redness, my flash is messed up and my camera died before I got a chance to tweak it a bit. Critiques? EDIT - My picture isn't uploading correctly for some reason. I keep getting a 404 when i click on it. I've tried re-uploading it but no luck. Tiny pic will work for now.

Actually John has it down preety good. I personaly think its a uniqe thin how people natraully hold thier sticks, if you can easaly do cheeses and double pariididles in 30 sec notes.. who cares how you hold the left stick lol Remember everybody has to look the same. And it's not 30 sec notes, it's 32nd notes ;). The point is there are many correction versions of traditional, but there are many many more wrong variations
