#120904 - 10/03/06 10:37 PM Prehistoric drumlines?

So I was tausing up the idea where the orginal drumlines came from and I was looking on the internet and i saw this weird picture and it made me think. It was a picture of this worriers about to go into battle... and infront of them were these elephants with giant drums, and on the ground had lil animals with the same set up. so could drumlines origonate all the way back into the prehistoric ages to beating on things to scare your enemy and such. just thrown the idea around. anyone know?

Changed to a more appropriate thread title. Also, how about trying out the nifty spell-checker feature we have? It doesn't hurt. I swear.

No, can't say that I do. But just out of curiosity what were they worrying about?

I think that what they meant to say was warriors, not worriers

YEAH! pre-historic drumlines did happen. They had full on fife and drum ensembles earlier than 512 B.C. In China and Japan. The "fifes" were actually recorder flutes in Japan and Ocarinas in China. The drums were rope-tensioned and tack tensioned Taiko drums.

In the western world the Turks and the Normans used an early form of Timpini drum mounted on horse-back as well as smaller ones for foot-men.

They were first used to scare the enemy and herald their approach and then shortly after, were used to keep the pace when marching.

You're right, bingham. I've read some stuff years ago about how Cavemen would use hand drums to drive off Sabre-Toothed Tigers and attacking Mastodon, or whatever else they faced.

Man, imagine how it would be to live in the past like that . . . Like wild animals . . . awesome.
