Its funny, prior to joining band (my junior year), i have NEVER heard of the "band geek" stereotype. in particular, the drumline gets the most props, everyone loves the drumline. especially out percussion competition ensemble (we got 2nd place in the SCPA finals). and our band also wins a TON of awards at parades. so i guess i band is relatively liked.
and its funny how people have been mentioning sports is big at our school. its the same with our school. if your football team is good but you've never heard of notre dame, i would have to assume you're in a lower division (at least at southern California). but yeah, football games are practically life at our school. the football team is pretty much the pride of notre dame. we play the music that the cheerleaders dance to, and as far as i know, they love the band.
people also actually stay to watch our half time shows. other schools people just go "AWESOME! NOW I HAVE TIME TO PISS!" and yeah.
So no, our band does not get hated on.

There's mixed feelings toward the band at my school. A lot of people could care less if we existed or not, and the rest are pretty supportive. There really aren't too many people who put us down, now that I think about it. When we get new songs for pep band, we send a recording over to the cheerleaders, and they do their thing. That way, it's not a constant fight between us and them over whose show it is. Needless to say, though, the drumline gets way more attention than the rest of the band, and because of that, our director doesn't really like us to "showcase" ourselves, meaning we don't generally do performances on our own. I'm happy with the way things are, though.

at my school we're not made fun of. we're a small town and most of us get along. of course there's the occasional innner conflicts among students. but as far as band in general we have no conflicts w/ other student orginazations or the people who aren't in any after school activity. i mean of course if u get us together we joke about each other, but its never serious. so basically at my school each club orginazation gets the respect it deserves and earns.

At my school, we aren't seen as "the sheeeeeeeeet" We actually don't get much respect from the students, but most of the teachers enjoy us. We have about, this year, 75(?) out of 1600 students. including guard, drum major, etc.
To put it in perspective, there were twice as many cheerleaders than brass players last year. Good thing is, since we got new directors, we had an average of new beginning band students jump from an average of 30-40 to last year, 84, and 76 the year before. The band room isin't equipped to handle that many (we had 84 chairs.) We need a new band room, but we don't get enough funding. We need chairs, stands, and some new marching Baritones, and more snares and quads for the next few year, the come pit.
enough bragging

yea a lot of the teachers here are supportive. actually our head FB and wrestling coach's daughter plays tenor sax and will be a rookie soon but not til the season after this upcoing season.
off topic but since mr. cornutt came to my school the band has been growing. and pretty fast too. our new high school was just built so we have a knew band room the acoustics in it are horrible. u'd figure when they built the school that they'd give the band room some proper acoutstics. anywayz we're also going to have to get new drums and such for the battery and pit.

A good number of the students in our band are athletes or cheerleaders or just generally popular, so people at our school are okay with us, but they don't really love us either.
I don't think most of the kids at our school really care about our halftime shows though. Sometimes people tell us that we need to play some "real" music, like the movie Drumline.
