My marching band has two more weeks and only 4 full ensemble pracitces left before our first comp. The band and the percussion are both way ahead of normal but things are starting to drop of intensity wise. We make imporvements from week to week but not to my liking. Also the first comp. features a stand-stll percussion show ( Timber Creek) that features Jeff Moore, Jeff Queen, and Scott Johnson as judges. It is thought as with this early in the season we are ahead and might take the show although there is some good groups going to be there. But i don't want to hope that we win i want it to happen. I need some help on how i can get my guys moving with more intensity in winning this show. I'm open to suggestions.

Hi MagicTenor,

First I want to say that the standstill drumline show at Timber Creek is so much fun. You get to watch all of the other drumlines and see there technique, style, and look. I am part of the drumline at Timber Creek and I can tell you that it is a really fun time.

Back on topic now,
Just remind them that other drumlines are going to be there, so you want to look your best and have the show to its maximum potential for this point in the season. I am the bass captain at Timber Creek and to get my guys motivated, next time your line play's something really well and the techs or directors or instructors compliment you, tell them to remember how that feels and to harness that good energy when you are having a slow or down rehearsal. Just try and pump everyone up a little during rehearsal and things will start to liven up.

Whenever my group's intensity drops, its usually because of the pure repetition of practice. If you are working on your drumline, change it up. Try working in a new setting, a change of backgrounds does wonders from the same room you have been practicing in for months. Try working and improving parts of the show you previous neglected. Try getting in a large set of windows/mirrors to focus on 'seeing' what you look like playing. Anything new will stimulate the mind for a quick fix.

Hey MagicTenor05 my drumline's going to be competing at Timber Creek, I'm center snare at Northeast High School. Hope to see you there. Remind your line that they will have Scott Johnson in thier face on Saturday. That should motivate them.
