Ok, searched the forum and didn't find anything pertaining to my specific question. My line's solo this year is going to support the visual of the band/guard tearing down the Berlin Wall...so I'm looking for any effect percussion that can simulate that sound (hammers, picks, etc. on a wall). I've already thought of the usual suspects (brake drum, propane tank, garbage can) but I thought you guys might have some ideas on what else would be feasible for a HS pit to pull off. Thanks!

How about a small anvil? We have used one in years past at the school I work with.

clay pots and hammers = bricks and hammers.

sticks and mallet shafts against the frames of the instruments

Are you saying that you dont think you could pull off the things you already said, or do you not just have the money/personel/crew to do it?

Can your band use electronic keyboards? If so, do your circuit's rules allow using sampled sounds?

If you're looking for a non-synthesized option, it might be time to start wandering around hitting stuff to see if you can find something that sounds appropriate and creates enough volume. Got any local scrapyards or junkyards? Pay 'em a visit and bring a few different implements (hammers, mallets, etc.).

Off the top of my head... You might be able to make a tools-on-concrete kind of sound by hitting something like the flat part of a shovel or trowel against stone or bricks.

Chains, surprisingly, in combination with the anvil and propane, sounds pretty good. Hubcaps and triangle beaters might give you a different effect. For sound effects for when the wall falls you use a bass drum with a sheet draped over the head with harder mallets and possibly something like rain sticks for the crowd cheering when the wall falls. Hope anything I've said helps.

I think 2 people playing unison 16ths on 1: a low concert tom with a towel on it, and 2: a brake drum or steele pipe would sound a lot like a jackhammer. Playing maybe some "random" sets of between 5 and 8 notes at a time would be good. Can't actually have random if it's 2 people, so you'll have to write it out.

Not thinking too hard: King Claves. They sound just like a pick against concrete.
