Well, for those of you who don't have the money to dish out for a pad that has some snare sound to it you might like this. I was hacking around last night and i saw a wal-mart plastic bag and decided to see what would happen if I put the pad in the bag. Well I put the pad in the walmart bag and then put in another walmart bag inside on top the pad and tadaaaaa! Might not be the best way, but hey it gives it a snare sound to it. FYI I only tried this with my vicfirth double sided pad. Happy bag drumming! oh yeah and the looser the bag the more snarey it sounds so don't put it tight against the pad.

How interesting. I never would have thought Wal-Mart would come in handy in terms of playing music... Good Job!

Does it have to be a Wal-Mart bag. I have a Target bag, but I don't think it will work.

Just an update on this new pit instrument, I know for a fact that Target, Kohls, and grocery bags will work also. You need to experiment to find the sound your looking for. I am now taking a big plastic shopping bag and working on tuning the bag to resemble a bass drum.............to be continued.

nope...Pad is for practicing. My pad has beads in it that make the snare sound. It sounds really tight but be careful on developing pad hands.

Lol, One guy makes a new type of pad... one thing leads to another... and tommorow's drumlines use walmart bags instead of kevlar heads on their drums... lol... good luck with cranking that thing.

It is a novel idea, though, for people that can't afford an X-Pad and want a more realistic sound.

Pads are for practice and being quiet. This Idea meets both requirements.

Good Idead!

Placing a sheet of paper on top of a pad also has a nice sound to it.

The paper thing is good, but the quality comes from the Walmart bag, its such perfection..........hahahaha.

I'm now working on repairing old bass rims, and stretching large bags over them, still having some problem tuning them. But I think I am onto something good here.........to be continued after solving tuning problem.

I don't like those pads with the beads inside it. Why is it important that a practice pad sound like a snare? If it were, they'd call them "performance pads" or something. It's just for the feel... and for portability. And QUIETNESS, sometimes. Not for the sound. Thats just IMO.

I've found that if you use a very big bag and overlap layers of plastic on plastic makes a tighter snare sound the more layers you make.

For me it seems that continuous beating flattens the pad out and I lose the response after about two minutes.

Has anybody tried putting beads in their pads? I was thinking about that but I'm too afraid I'll permanently mess up the pad.

Yeah, that would be better. They are usually so expensive though. If I had the money to, I would just buy a real snare pad.

And this brings up the real question everybody is wondering about. A pad's function is to help practice so you dont have to carry a drum around, but should be it just like a snare or shuld it just feel like one???? hmmmmm

as far as realistic feeling i just ghetto'd up some hardware and made basically a really thin drum and filled with some stuff that makes it absolutely silent. so it does the same thing as a pad (quiet practice) but without risking pad hands

ill try to get some...but on another thing to try (i know this works with reel feel pads) but put like some electrical tape acroos the middle then put a not as long layer on top of that then put an even smaller layer on top of that in the middle of the pad...and...kaboom you got a snar-ish sounding pad and a playing zone worker.

Since this is the holiday season, save all those bags for your Walmart Drum Pad. You can use bags from other stores for different sounds, but the Walmart bag is the bomb for sound.

Sounds like something you could try in an indoor show......

I honestly prefer my H-E-B bags in two to three layers. They last a little bit longer, but they don't stay on my Slimpad very well......

Think of the GE possibilities... I can't really think of any, but I'm sure they're there.... wait, you could possibly take off all of your drum head-bag things, fasten them together, and have a simple player jump off the stadium roof and parachute down.

you can put any bag on top, even better if you put a thin magazine like an eastbay on your pad and it sounds "snarey" as well.
